How to Make the Best S’mores

a s'mores dessert tray, filled with marshmallows, chocolate candies, cookies and crackrersWhat do shorter days and cooler nights mean?  S’mores!  Now that we’ve upgraded our fire pit at Tiffany’s Bed and Breakfast, we decided to upgrade our s’mores game as well.

What is a s’more?  The traditional s’more recipe is a marshmallow roasted over a fire, sandwiched with a chocolate square between two graham crackers.  Where did the name come from?  The first known published recipe was for “some mores”, because everyone  wanted some more!  The recipe was published in a Girl Scout handbook in 1927, and S’mores have been synonymous with camping and camp fires ever since.

When we serve breakfast at Tiffany’s, we like to take “ordinary” breakfast foods and add our own “twist” to them, so it should be no surprise that we’d do the same thing to s’mores.  Here are a few of our favorites:

Gimme S’more Brownies!  You’ll be greeted with a pan of Bob’s brownies at check in, but a roasted marshmallow sandwiched between 2 brownies on a blue and white platewhy stop there?  Take 2 of them out to the firepit, roast a marshmallow, and sandwich it between your brownies!

Krispie Treats S’more:  Who doesn’t love Rice Krispie Treats?  But have you made s’mores with them?  Stuff your marshmallow and chocolate between 2 treats for even more ooey gooey marshmallow goodness!

Salty & Sweet S’more:  I’m a sucker for a salty sweet combination!  Instead of graham crackers, use pretzel crackers for your base, and add chocolate and marshmallows.  Or, save a step and use chocolate covered pretzel crackers!

Peanut Butter Sammich S’more:  Use graham crackers, peanut butter cups, and marshmallows – add some sliced bananas for an Elvis approved snack!

Lemon Meringue Pie S’more:  For my non-chocolate eaters…oh, that’s just me?  Ok then!  I used Belgian waffle butter crisps topped with lemon curd and a roasted marshmallow in the center.  You could also use graham crackers for a pie crust taste!

As you can see from our s’mores dessert board, there is no wrong way to eat a s’more!  There are hundreds of options – use your favorite chocolate candy bar, any cookie or cracker that’s on hand, and pretty much any filling that fits your sweet tooth!  S’mores can also be weather-proof:  just substitute marshmallow cream, and there’s no need for a fire!

When you make reservations at Tiffany’s Bed and Breakfast, be sure to add our Unplug and Unwind package.  It includes 2 nights in the room of your choice, 2 tickets to Garvan Woodland Gardens, and a s’mores kit.  Fall is a beautiful time at Garvan, with the leaves changing and thousands of mums in bloom.  Spend the day wandering the paths, and return to Tiffany’s that night for some star gazing and marshmallow roasting at the fire pit.  We’ll see you soon!
